How to stand as a Candidate and become a celebrity on our Party election Broadcasts! WE CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU!!!
I really hope that you have enjoyed watching the Movement for Active Democracy clips and are seeing and beleiving in the incredible opportunity that is suddenly open to us here!
If so, the single most important thing that you can do to support the Movement is to stand for us as a candidate in the next General Election.
If you are getting a tingle in your toes at the prospect you are right to! It should prove to be a really exciting and fun life experience, let alone the opportunity for you to change your country for ever!
To do this you do not need any special talents and we only ask you to do your best!
Further, it doesn’t matter what your own particular views are, or which way you lean politically, because under the system proposed by the Movement everyone has equal opportunity to propose policy and everyone has equal opportunity to veto policy.
So, if you want to be a M.A.D. candidate, this is what you need to do.
1) ELIGIBILITY. First check to make sure you are eligible. If you are British, 18 or over, not been bankrupted, jailed, or in the police or the army, then you probably are. If you aren’t sure you meet this criteria or want any other info then check on the electoral commission web sites - www.electoralcommission.org.uk or www.aboutmyvote.co.uk (and look at, amongst other stuff, ‘guidance for candidates‘) or call them on 020 7271 0500. If you can’t get the information you need contact us!
2) LET US KNOW! Contact us right away with your intention to stand. We plan to do this on a first come first served basis!
3) SEND US YOUR DETAILS. Use the form. We need your name address and phone contact, (to be kept privately) a copy of a recent utility bill (for us to be able to verify you are who you say you are!), the name of the constituency you wish to stand for and a signed pledge form (available from this site) by return of post.
4) TO PUT YOU ON OUR WEB SITE we need you to e-mail us a recent photograph, up to 100 of your own words as to why you want to support the Movement and an e-mail address you wish the public to be able to write to you on directly.
4) MEMBERSHIP. At some stage (and because we don’t know each other yet and we don‘t want you thinking this is a scam we are happy for you to take a little time over this!!) you will need to join as a member. If someone wants to run as a candidate in your constituency but you are not yet a registered member we shall inform you and give you the opportunity to join and keep your place as a candidate. Failure to do so in a reasonable time frame shall result in the other applicant becoming the authorised Movement for Active Democracy candidate.
5) UPON THE APPLICATION BEING SUCESSFUL and full membership being taken out we shall send out authorisation from our nominating officer allowing you to use the party name, descriptions and emblems in your campaign when an election is called. You will need to supply this form at the time of your application to stand to the returning officer - so keep it safe!
The actual application forms to stand are available from your returning officer and shall require you to fill in your personal details including your polling number, the names, addresses, polling numbers and signatures of ten people to support your application, your letter from us authorising you standing as a candidate for the Movement for Active Democracy and a £500 deposit that is only returned to you if you poll 5% or more of the votes cast.
Please don’t let the jumping through hoops put you off! It isn’t that hard and all part of the standing experience!!
When you become an official candidate we shall be in regular contact with you. When an election is called this might become quite frenzied!
PLEASE NOTE. You should find out who your returning officer is, (or person acting on their behalf), in good time as as this is where your completed forms and deposit must be handed in IN PERSON. When an election is called you have less than 21 days to get everything FROM THEM AND BACK TO THEM in good order! The information of their whereabouts can be obtained from your local council offices.
